From Sara Shepard, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, comes the shocking sequel to The Perfectionists—with an ending you'll have to read to believe!

Mackenzie, Ava, Caitlin, Julie, and Parker have done some not-so-perfect things. Even though they all talked about killing rich bully Nolan Hotchkiss, they didn't actually go through with it. It's just a coincidence that Nolan died in exactly the way they planned . . . right? Except Nolan wasn't the only one they fantasized about killing. When someone else they named dies, the girls wonder if they're being framed. Or are they about to become the killer's next targets?

NB! This is part of a series and therefore contains spoilers of the prequel The Perfectionists. You can read my review of The Perfectionists here

The Perfectionists is about 5 girls who named 5 different people they wanted dead and ways for this to happen. Then one of the people they name, Nolan Hotchkiss, wind up dead and they're all suspects. That's the basic plotline for the story in both books, a bit like And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. The story holds so much more though, each girl has her own life and own problems and that's one of the things I love most about these books - the individuality of the girls, they're so different and it's easy to know who's who after a while.

I read The Perfectionists in October last year and I was totally disapointed! It was good, but I had expected more from Sara Shepard. I love the Pretty Little Liars TV series but the books aren't that interesting when it comes down to it in my opinion.

The Good Girls is the second and final book in The Perfectionists series and it's definitely better than the first book! In my review of the first book I mentioned that it felt like a spinoff of Pretty Little Liars but this one did not feel like a spinoff and I really enjoyed reading it because of that.
In The Good Girl the pace is faster, it's more scary and creepy, the characters are somehow better and the writing have improved as well. The Perfectionists were also quite predictable where as in The Good Girls I did not see the plottwist coming and the ending, WOW, I really don't know what to say about that.
All in all The Good Girls is just better than The Perfectionists! I enjoyed the story so much more in this one and I was actually interested in each of the girls where as in the other I kept comparing them to Pretty Little Liars and even though there is some similarities I think this series is better!

To be honest I didn't really remember that much from The Perfectionists when I started reading so I had to read the synopsis and my review a couple of times before I began to remember the story but I'm happy to say that the prologue in The Good Girls is basically one big summary of what happened in The Perfectionists and it definitely helped me! I'm not a big fan of rereading and I don't reread books I didn't enjoy in the first place! I definitely recommend you reading the two books back to back or at least within a few months so the story is fresh in your mind!

Even though I did enjoy this much more than the prequel it was still lacking in some departments which is why I gave it a 4 star rating. If you read the first book then pick up The Good Girls, it's so much better and the plot twists are worth it! Also, you get to know who the killer is and that is a twist I didn't see coming - so full of surprises!

  1. I know her Pretty Little Liars series although I haven't read it but The Perfectionists are new to me! It sounds like this one really improved on the first book, I love the sound of more character development and better pacing. Glad you enjoyed this one and great review!
